Daily Bread for the Soul: Navigating Consistency in Scripture
One way I want to improve in the new year is to have better consistency with my daily Bible reading.
For many, this week marks the return from the Christmas and New Year's break. This season prompts us to look back on the past year, hopeful that the coming one will be an improvement.
One way I want to improve in the new year is to have better consistency with my daily Bible reading.
Speaking of looking ahead, I've been thinking about my goals for the new year. One thing I'm aiming for is to establish better consistency with my daily Bible reading. It's so easy to let that slip amidst the daily hustle, right? But this year, I'm determined to carve out that time and delve into it. There's nothing more important than time spent alone with the Lord!
So, I'm curious, what's on your reading list this week?
Specifically, what book of the Bible are you diving into?
Are there any particular scriptures that are resonating with you?
Beyond that, any other books you're enjoying or newsletters that have caught your eye lately?
Either reply to this email or leave a comment below on the web archive. I'd love to hear form you!
Improving daily Bible reading involves a mix of commitment, consistency, and personalized strategies. Here are some ways to enhance this practice that I'll be working on myself:
Set a Routine: Allocate a specific time each day for reading. It could be in the morning, during lunch breaks, or before bedtime—whatever suits your schedule best.
Start Small, Grow Gradually: Begin with manageable portions. You don't have to start with lengthy chapters. Even a few verses a day can build a consistent habit. The main point...just make it a habit of getting in the Word!
Use a Reading Plan or App: There are various reading plans available that can guide your daily readings. Apps like YouVersion or physical plans like the One-Year Bible can structure your readings.
Take Notes or Journal: Write down thoughts, reflections, or questions that arise during your reading. This helps with comprehension and personal connection.
Explore Various Resources: Dive into commentaries, devotional books, or study guides to gain deeper insights into the passages you read.
Pray for Understanding: Before starting, take a moment to pray for clarity and understanding. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your understanding and application of the text.
Accountability Partner or Group: Join a group or find a friend who shares the same goal. Discussing what you're reading can provide encouragement and accountability.
Create a Quiet Space: Find a peaceful place, free from distractions, where you can focus on your reading. It could be a cozy corner at home or a peaceful spot outdoors.
Memorize Key Verses: Identify verses that resonate with you and commit them to memory. This aids in recalling and meditating on them throughout the day.
Reflect and Apply: After reading, take a moment to reflect on how the passage applies to your life. Consider practical steps to integrate its teachings into your daily actions.
Don't stress if you miss a day or two—it's all about progress, not perfection. Embrace the journey of spiritual growth by staying engaged with the Scriptures consistently. It's the little steps that count!
Let's kickstart this new year sharing and inspiring each other!

A really great list. Practical and effective advice.
We see in Ephesus that they were actively “doing” but had lost their love of Yah. There is no point reading Yah’s word without the mind of Christ. Just like eating Chinese food does not make you Chinese, reading the Bible does not make you a Christian. When I was born from above, The Bible came alive. Without the mind of Christ, it is words on a page. Praying for the indwelling Yeshua to enlighten you before you read, now there is the key. Then listen to and/or read big chunks, watch the changes.
